My ancestor, Sebastian Schaub, came to America from Sissach, Basel, CH in
1740. He was a "lacemaker".

Sebastian's Father, Hans Heinrich Schaub traveled with him to America. (He
was a shoemaker)

This is recorded in the book "the History of Shoups /Schaubs" by Marlo K
Schermerhorn.

From this record it is noted that :

Caspar Schaub of Zunzgen & Agnes Schaub of Wittisburg m 6 VIII 1661
had a son Bastian bp 7 IX 1662.

Bastian married Maria Kursteiner (Thiersteiner)
Son : Hans Heinrich bp 15 III 1681

"This record was researched in 1957 from the church registers of Sissach, on
deposit at Liestal."

I will have the chance to travel to Sissach in mid-February. Is it possible
to find the church / cemetary where my ancestors would be buried?
Are there any Schaubs decended from this line still in Sissach?

Any help would be appreciated.

Switzerland phone directory at
http://www.infobel.com/teldir/result.asp?url=http://tel.search.ch/

finds 63 Schaub listings in Sissach. Looks like you have lots of cousins.

There are 36 Schaub listings in Zunzgen.

There are no Schaub listings in Wittisburg.

There are also 5 listings of Kursteiner in all of Switzerland.

There are no Thiersteiner listings, except some relating to a Fast-Food
Restaurant - Migros Thiersteinerallee, a Restaurant Thiersteinerhof, and a
Kindergarten on Thiersteinerstrasse.

Good luck on your search, and have a good time on your trip.

Thierstein might have been a town or location near Basel/Bale.
Thiersteinerallee, Thiersteinerrain, Thiersteinersteg and
Thiersteinerweglein are streetnames in Basel/Bale; there is also a
Thiersteinerstrasse in Muttenz near Basel/Bale. And there is a
Thiersteinerschule (school) in Basel/Bale.
So Thierstein could be an induced misreading of the name.

Completion

Thierstein has been a castle/Schloss in canton Solothurn. It was
located near the town Laufen (now canton Basel-Land) which is
located southwest of Basel/Bale. The lineage of counts of Thierstein
is dead since a long time.
Thierstein is now a district/Bezirk.

You also should contact the local authorities (Gemeindebuero) and
the registry offices in Sissach and Liestal. As far as I know (I am
no Swiss citizen), Swiss researchers often get their informations
from the local Authorities. Contact them before your travel.
Try to ask at
